Core Function
The steam turbine thrust bearing is a critical core component that ensures the axial positioning of the rotor and balances axial thrust. Its performance directly determines the operational stability of the rotor, the vibration level of the unit, and its service life. Under high-speed rotation (3,000 r/min and above), variable loads, and a wide temperature range (50–120°C), the thrust bearing must form a stable oil film through hydrodynamic lubrication to transmit the rotor's axial thrust to the bearing housing. This prevents friction and collisions between the rotor and stationary components (such as diaphragms and seals), making it the "lifeline" for the safe and efficient operation of the steam turbine.
Structure Composition & Operating Principle
It typically adopts a multi-pad tilting pad thrust bearing structure, consisting of thrust pads, a bearing housing, a thrust collar (thrust disc), and a lubrication system. Under load, the thrust pads can automatically form an optimal tilt angle, establishing a stable hydrodynamic oil film that effectively enhances load capacity while reducing friction and wear. Based on operational requirements, thrust bearings can be designed as either unidirectional or bidirectional structures to accommodate different operating conditions and variations in axial load.

Technical Advantages
Our company employs a mature and reliable tilting pad thrust bearing structure, where the pads can self-adapt to form a stable oil film. This effectively controls axial displacement under high-load and high-speed conditions, significantly enhancing the operational safety of the steam turbine. The working surfaces of the thrust pads are lined with high-quality tin-based Babbitt alloy, offering excellent anti-galling properties, embeddability, and conformability. In the event of lubrication fluctuations or abnormal conditions, this design prioritizes the protection of the thrust collar and rotor system.
Performance & Customization
Through optimization of the pad geometry and lubrication circuit design, a uniform and stable hydrodynamic oil film is formed, effectively reducing friction and temperature rise. This ensures reliable performance to meet the demands of long-term, full-load operation of steam turbines. Customized design and manufacturing solutions for unidirectional or bidirectional thrust bearings can be provided according to different unit capacities, axial loads, and operating conditions. Our products are widely compatible with thermal power plants, industrial steam turbines, and combined cycle units.

A rotating machine is never only about turning speed. Inside the system, axial force, heat, and lubrication conditions are constantly changing.
A machine may run smoothly for a long time and still develop one serious issue: unwanted axial movement. When a shaft shifts in the wrong direction, rotor position becomes unstable, or metal surfaces begin to wear faster than expected, the problem often points to the Thrust Bearing.
Replacing a Thrust Bearing is often treated as a simple maintenance task, but in real industrial equipment it is rarely that simple.
The white metal thrust tilting pad is a core component in heavy-duty rotating machinery, responsible for withstanding axial forces. Its technical sophistication directly determines the safety and reliability of unit operation. The key technical challenges for thrust tilting pads lie in areas such as
