A white metal bearing, also known as a babbitt bearing, is a type of sliding bearing widely used in large-scale rotating machinery. Its main functions are to support the rotating shaft and reduce friction and wear during rotation, thereby ensuring the stability and reliability of equipment under high-load, long-term continuous operating conditions.
White metal bearings typically adopt a composite structure consisting of a steel backing and a white metal lining. The white metal material offers excellent friction resistance, good conformability, and strong embeddability, allowing it to absorb micro-particle impurities during operation and accommodate minor shaft deviations. This effectively protects the journal surface, prolonging the bearing life and the overall service life of the equipment.

Furthermore, a thrust bearing system is usually composed of several key components working together, including the thrust shaft, thrust pads, bearing casing, bearing housing, oil ring, and bearing bush. These components perform essential functions such as axial load transmission, lubrication, and structural support. Together, they ensure reliable operation of the thrust bearing system under demanding high-load conditions.
Leveraging our mature machining capabilities and well-established manufacturing system, we not only provide high-quality white metal thrust bearings but also have the capacity to manufacture related supporting components, such as propulsion shafts, thrust shoes, bearing shells, oil rings, and bearing bushes. All products can be custom-produced according to drawings or technical parameters. These bearings are widely used in steam turbines, hydro generators, reciprocating compressors, pumps, rolling mills, marine propulsion systems, and various other large-scale industrial rotating machinery.
Through comprehensive manufacturing processes and strict quality control, we offer integrated solutions ranging from single-component machining to complete thrust bearing systems, thereby improving the operational stability and service life of equipment.
White metal bearings mainly consist of a bearing base material and a white metal alloy layer.
·Bearing base material: Typically manufactured from high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel, these materials offer high strength and excellent structural stability, providing a reliable supporting foundation for the bearing.
·Babbitt alloy: The Babbitt alloy is primarily composed of tin, antimony, and copper. It features good embeddability, conformability, and high thermal conductivity.
Depending on the equipment operating conditions, we can select either tin-based or lead-based Babbitt alloy materials accordingly.
1. Base Machining: The bearing steel substrate is first machined through processes such as turning and milling to achieve the basic structural dimensions. Positioning and mating surfaces are also machined at this stage to prepare for the subsequent casting process.
2. White Metal Casting: Using centrifugal or gravity casting processes, the molten white metal alloy is poured onto the inner surface of the bearing substrate, forming a strong metallurgical bond between the white metal layer and the steel backing.
3. Finish Machining: After casting is completed, finish machining is performed on the bearing bore and mounting surfaces through processes such as turning and boring. This ensures that dimensional and geometric accuracy meet the design requirements.
· Dimensional Inspection: Precision measurements are conducted on the bore diameter, width, coaxiality, and key installation dimensions to ensure that all dimensions conform to the drawing requirements.
· Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic testing (UT) and penetrant testing (PT) are performed to inspect for cracks, pores, or bonding defects between the babbitt lining and the substrate.
· Bonding Strength Test: The bond between the white metal layer and the steel substrate is inspected to ensure firm and reliable adhesion.
· Surface Quality Inspection: The bearing surface is inspected to ensure it is free from obvious defects, scratches, or casting imperfections.
·Protective Treatment: To prevent corrosion during transportation and storage, we apply anti-rust oil or a protective agent to the key machined surfaces of the bearing, and wrap it with rust-proof paper or moisture-proof material.
·Cushioning and Fixation: Wooden supports or specially designed structures are used to secure the product, preventing deformation or collision during transit.
·Outer Packaging: The bearings are packaged in custom wooden cases or steel-framed crates, making them suitable for sea freight and long-distance transportation.

A rotating machine is never only about turning speed. Inside the system, axial force, heat, and lubrication conditions are constantly changing.
A machine may run smoothly for a long time and still develop one serious issue: unwanted axial movement. When a shaft shifts in the wrong direction, rotor position becomes unstable, or metal surfaces begin to wear faster than expected, the problem often points to the Thrust Bearing.
Replacing a Thrust Bearing is often treated as a simple maintenance task, but in real industrial equipment it is rarely that simple.
The white metal thrust tilting pad is a core component in heavy-duty rotating machinery, responsible for withstanding axial forces. Its technical sophistication directly determines the safety and reliability of unit operation. The key technical challenges for thrust tilting pads lie in areas such as
